A Quick Letter to Kathy Griffin

Kathy Griffin: friendly or offensive? Image courtesy of NoH8 Campaign.

Dear Kathy,

I want to start off by saying that you are a genius! You are brilliantly smart, funny and have such great sensibility when it comes to understanding your audience. That being said, you do have one habit that is really irritating and cringe worthy and I just need to ask you to reconsider it. Most gay people don’t like being called “The Gays” and to quote you, “And here’s why.”

Although I know you are kinda of poking fun at an older generation who refer to us as “The Gays”, when you say things like “ Where my Gays at”, or “ Are my Gays following,” it really is belittling and makes us sound like small pets. I get that it’s a joke, really I do, but if one of our advocates, like you, can’t even stop pandering to us and treating us as an isolated group of individuals separated from the rest of society, then how are we to expect other people not to think the same way.

Oddly enough I know a lot of gay people have accepted that gay friendly women will refer to them as “their gays”, but I think if they really thought about it, they would see that it is really sort of derogatory. I’m not a pet, I’m a person and I happen to be a big fan so I hope you will reconsider this practice.

Btw Kate Gosselin is perhaps the biggest waste of space known to man and I am addicted to her! And I too am physically afraid of Oprah.
