Just say no to bareback

We all know bareback sex is hotter to watch than a guy getting fucked with latex, but  at what price are we paying for the excitement? I’ve been reading up on the subject matter, and most porn sites that do bareback sex say they have no choice: They can’t compete with bigger sites, and if they didn’t offer it, someone else will. They always claim that actors agree, and are never forced to go bareback. Routine HIV testing is a given, according to producers.

Fair enough on the “if we don’t, someone else will” notion; in the Internet age, anyone can start a porn site, gather a group of fuck buddies, and go at it raw. I don’t know that making it illegal would ever work, or how it would be controlled. After all, consenting adults are consenting adults.

So, as a consumer, how do I feel about it? Yes, I get more turned on, but I’d rather it not be done. For one thing, all the testing in the world isn’t going to mean much if you’re having routine sex with multiple partners. You’d have to time the results with your last unsafe sex experience, and your scene partner would have to trust you. The other problem is that I do think studios put pressure on guys to go bareback (the straight porn industry has gotten a lot of bad press for condom-less sex, and women claim they won’t work if they insist on men wearing condoms).

Have you noticed how young most of the bareback guys are? My hunch is that they’re naïve, they need money, and they’re living in an age of false AIDS security, equating the disease with an STD like syphilis—something you just get treated for and move on. Yes, I’ve seen older guys go bareback too, in really cheesy sites, and often they’re doing poppers in a gang bang. They should know better, but everything has been compromised.

There are websites and blogs that list all the best bareback porn sites, and condemn gay porn with condoms. The guys who write those blogs are ill-advised to be encouraging men to lay off the latex; it’s as if they either don’t care, or are still living in 1981.

I can’t change the rules of porn. But I can advise you to say no to the bareback scenes. You may save a life.
