The price of porn
Does anyone have any idea what gay porn stars make? Years ago I knew a porn star who worked for Falcon. He was very wealthy, and admitted to me that all his “money” was from his escort services. Another porn star I knew, who was not very popular, cut hair for a living. And I still remember that Sylvester Stallone said he made 200 bucks for the porn movie he shot way back when.
Okay, that was a long time ago, but it’s not much money. Dean Phoenix, who used to be a big Colt star (I hear he’s coming back, but I’m not sure if he has), is a bartender in West Hollywood. That surprised me initially, as he was such a big star. But I know that some of the other really big ones are on Rentboy.com, or in the back pages of gay rags.
So, is it worth it? If you’re bartending anyway, what’s the rush? Is it the thrill of attention, the fame (weird fame, but fame, nevertheless) that keeps guys doing it? Every gay porn star I’ve met has been somewhat of a sex fiend as well, willing and able to do anyone at any time. So does that factor in? Getting paid for what really does come naturally? I have to wonder if anyone of them thinks there’s a path to real stardom, or are promised, I don’t know, something else from studio heads. That sounds very 1950s, but you never know.
