Let’s Talk Lube

Recently, I’ve been thinking about lube.  I’ll be honest: I have no idea what the best lube is, and, were you to put me in charge, I’d run out and get a tube of K-Y. I’m guessing that my lack of knowledge lies in the fact that I mostly top and pretty much just saying “stick it in” keeps me big and ready. To me, spit is the perfect lube—it’s quick, it’s easy, and it’s free. And before you laugh that off, lots of guys don’t need more than spit.

However, for many men, the type of lube used is a really big deal. (And there’s nothing worse than having to improvise and use something like olive oil.) I did date a guy once who would only use one brand—it was a black bottle, that’s all I remember. He’d run to about ten stores in South Beach to look for it. If he couldn’t find it, anal was out of the question. I also remember that it was extremely expensive.

A lot of guys I know like Astro-Glide; I have no idea why. I did some checking online to see what some other popular types were and found, among them, Eros. It’s got a silicone base and supposedly lasts longer. However, on the vendor site I checked, it did say it might stain your sheets. Don’t we have enough staining problems to worry about?

The other big products are all the Wet Lube brands. Okay, these I’m accustomed to. It’s usually what guys keep at the side of their beds, which always strikes me as a little “come hither” creepy. I mean, can’t you keep it in a drawer so I don’t have to stare at it? Anyway, the big advantage of these lubes are the taste—they don’t taste like K-Y, which is only slightly less disgusting than the taste of latex.

There’s also something called Liquid Silk that seems to be making a splash. I’m not sure what makes it better; only that it’s supposed to wash off quickly with water. It also comes in a bottle that looks like an Ivory Soap Face Soap dispenser.

The problem with all these lubes is that they’re expensive. You can pay about 15 bucks for an ounce and a half of some of these products, whereas K-Y is going to be more in the eight dollar range for 2 ounces.

So what’s better? And what do you use? Spit it out!
