Five Rules of Being a Great Porn Star
I’ve been asked in the past “what makes a great porn star?” and although I could go in-depth about what I like, I thought I would make a very short list about the basics to becoming a star. So here are five simple rules to follow to be successful in the love business.

1) Take a great picture. This seems like an obvious and easy rule to follow, but you wouldn’t believe how many careers are made or broken by their abilities in front of the still camera. Not everyone was blessed with a perfect body, perfect skin, a dick of death and an ass that goes on forever, so you have to figure out how to work your best assets for the lens. A good photographer of course helps and a great photographer knows that shooting the pictures is just the beginning of the process and relies on his ability with lights and photoshop to enhance the product. At about 5’7” and covered with tattoos, Johnny Hazzard hardly seems like the type of person who would make superstar status at a first glance, but the boy knows how to take a good picture. He looks tall and strong in every photo and he knows how to work his face and body to make a great shot. It made him a star and if you can take a great photo, half of your job is already done.
2) Be flexible and versatile. Okay, although this is good advice in a literal translation, it is also great when it comes to the type of sex you have on film. No matter how great you are if you don’t change up what you are doing, it can get stale and old after a while. I’m not saying, “fake it” but I am saying try something new on camera, do a different position you haven’t tried before, or a fetish that isn’t something that you would normally do. Even if it doesn’t feel natural, go with it and you will be surprised at how much fans will appreciate the effort.

3) Just have sex. I think a lot of porn performers think they have to create something or overexaggerate sex once the camera starts rolling and that could not be further from the truth. If you just let yourself get into the actionand really enjoy yourself the audience can see it and will certainly be coming back for more. Even if you don’t find your partner to be sexual arousing, find something about then that turns you on and focus on that aspect. I think this is one of the reasons why so many straight guys don’t last that long in gay porn. They start with beautiful bodies, and gorgeous faces, but they just aren’t into the sex, which the camera can see. The camera doesn’t lie, so don’t lie to it. Enjoy your timeand have sex just like you would at home. Be passionate and involved and don’t worry so much about what you look like, the editor and videographer will take care of that for you.
4) Be nice. Being nice and someone that people want to work with is one of the most sure fire ways to achieving a successful career in any business, but it is even more so in the adult business. Hot guys are a dime a dozen, and although most people remember the bad boys, I assure you the good ones work more. This also means, being nice to your fans. They are the ones who will make your career and if you take the time just to say “thank you” you will be surprised by how far you can get.
5) Keep your private life, private. This coincides with number three and is a recent development in the business. With so much technology and so many ways to talk to fans, it is important to keep your private business private because once everyone knows all about you, they won’t see you as a sexual being and then they won’t want to watch your porn. I have seen dudes tweet and post about their break ups, and their drug addictions, their need for money and their fights with companies and other stars and I have to say I cannot think of a bigger turn off. If you think about it like this, most big A-list celebrities who are more private have much longer careers then the ones who feel the need to open their mouths every time they are having drama. Sure the drama seems fun for a while, but fans will soon tire of it and if you don’t keep some sort of mystery then no one will care what you look like when you are having sex.
