Will Modern Family’s Cam & Mitchell ever kiss?
The resident gay couple on ABC’s hit Modern Family is clearly a loving and committed couple. However, after 22 episodes, Cam and Mitchell still haven’t gone farther than some affectionate hugs. In fact, after last week’s episode entitled “Airport 2010,” the two men embraced while a heterosexual couple kissed (see photo) right next to them.
This lack of lip-locking has viewers a little peeved. And what happens nowadays when viewers don’t get what they want? They take it to Facebook, natch. After the very successful campaign to let Betty White host SNL last weekend, Modern Family fans have followed suit and launched Let Cam & Mitchell kiss on Modern Family!, a Facebook campaign to, well, you get the idea.
With over 5,200 friends, the Facebook group has already caused a stir. In their user info, they state:
Cam & Mitchell, the adorable gay couple on ABC’s “Modern Family,” have not been shown sharing even a brief kiss throughout the series’ first hit season. ABC isn’t afraid of gay characters, so why won’t they let them show some love?
Truly a good question, and producers of the show have issued a response:
“Cameron and Mitchell are a loving, grounded, committed, and demonstrably affectionate couple and have been from the beginning of the series. It happens that we have an episode in the works that addresses Mitchell’s slight discomfort with public displays of affection. It will air in the fall and until then, as Phil Dunphy would say, everyone please chillax.”
