- First Impression
I didn’t know about Dirk Yates until I logged onto the web site and read his bio. He’s been in porn for three decades and thrives off of showing military dudes (real and of the model variety) in army-themed clips. Back in 1993, it was discovered that some combat guys were appearing in his clips, which caused a big stir and cemented Yates into the gay-porn world. This site gives you a good selection of his films, in a solid, easy-to-understand format. Yates directed almost everything you find here, and, I must say, the flicks are hot! - Navigation
The site is easy to understand and navigate, in part because the concept and features are simple. There are no picture galleries (good to know that now), and all the films are for streaming only (ditto). Although Yates talks about discovering guys like Dean Phoenix, you can’t find him via search. Also, there are no links for genres or models or even dates of release. One disappointment on this site is that it’s hard to know if it gets updated. The movies aren’t in order; yes, if you go to the Info section you’ll find out when the video was originally released, but there’s no “recent releases” or “recent updates” anywhere to be found. -

As I wrote above, there are no photo shoots, which means nix on the wallpaper. The videos themselves are kind of grainy, but the direction is fantastic. Yates has a knack for shooting in low light, and creating an atmosphere of pure sex that also teases with a provocative, suppressed sexual through-line. Military men have always elicited homo-erotic fantasies, and Yates knows how to focus on the mystique and thrill of fucking in a combat zone. Everything here is for unlimited streaming, and you can connect to an iPad or iPhone. I found that the streaming worked better than most sites, with little buffering to get in the way. For the most part, fast-forwarding worked well, too. The movies are long—over an hour or so—and they don’t chop them up into individual scenes. Yates has some live shows, but they’re not nearly as interesting as the other stuff on here. -

Quite honestly, the guys on here are some of the sexiest I’ve seen in ages. Although there’s variety, he’s best at casting jocks with enough muscle and swagger to turn you on, but not so much that they look like shooting was done in between steroid shots. They look like real guys in really good shape, and they fuck like they mean it. Yates loves a nice ass, and he’s not afraid to spend good close-up time on the big bubbles. There are lots of Glory Hole shots, and they work well, too. For the most part, the guys here are not overly manscaped (trimmed pubes but natural elsewhere) and macho. It’s an especially smart move, because no one’s going to buy into the fantasy of military men fucking if their asshole’s trimmed and their eyebrows are waxed and their mouth drops out coin purses when speaking. When you watch of any his clips using only real servicemen, the guys aren’t usually as hot, but there’s something quite erotic in watching them nervously and awkwardly go at it. -

On the plus side, there’s a huge back catalog of film here, and the stuff is great. On the downside, it doesn’t look like he updates very often, and you’re not going to be able to download. There aren’t any extra sites or other big pluses to turn you on. Check out Yates’ stuff carefully; you might even want to do a little Internet search to find more about the clips and what he does. If you find one really hot video, know that you’re going to find a lot more like it. -

DirkYates.com is a gay site that’s all about military scenes, and there is some pretty hot stuff here. These kinds of clips are great for parties, or as backgrounds for you and your own dudes. The direction is always compelling, and there are a ton of hot guys on this site. Before you put down the plastic, be aware that you can’t download. -
