- First Impression
Before you visit AllGayToons.com, there's something you absolutely must do. You must let go of the notion that cartoons are child's things. It's easy to think that, especially if you grew up as I did, with Bugs Bunny on Saturday morning cartoons, He-Man showing in the afternoon (oh He-Man, with your muscles, furry speedo and perfect Dorothy Hamill bob…you will always and forever be my first love). But what you absolutely must realize is that cartoons aren't about children. Cartoons are about bringing to life things that cannot be. Rabbits cannot talk. When a rock falls on a coyote, he does not turn into an accordion and slink away; he dies. There is no magic sword that turns a fleeby gay prince into a beefy gay hero. The appeal of cartoons is that they can make anything happen. Cartoons are fantasy. Just like sex. Thinking about this any other way is just gonna be hella skeevy.
- Navigation
Proving that cartoons can be anything, the homepage for All Gay Toons shows a few different animation styles. There's the expected classical anime, the more cartoonish anime, the Sims-esque animation. The design itself is very cartoonish, but not in such a way that it's distracting. Ir promises that "this site has no match in the entire Internet." Well…that's for me to decide.
Logging in, much of the design stays the same. The layout is a bit basic, almost a little too blocky. Interesting, that. I would expect a design and layout to equal the awesomeness this site promises the content to be. The navigation is simple enough, it's just…boring. The designers attempted something interesting, animated buttons labelled with different types of sexual animation: Hot Rod Comics, Art by Robert Young, 3D Movies, etc. However, there's also a textual navigation to the left, which seems superfluous and uninspired. The exact opposite of what the site should be. -
- Content
Content delivery is minimal Or nearly nonexistent. This isn't a traditional paysite, and as such there's no delivery need, per se. There are two kinds of movies: 3D Movies and Bonus movies. The Bonus movies are live action, real people. It seems so out of place here. Both can only be downloaded in WMV format. There's no option for streaming online, which would be nice. Otherwise, everything else is viewed only online. It's all pictures or flash animations, there's nothing to really download, per se. -
- Guys and Sex
The content itself…to truly do this review justice, I'd have to go through each genre of animation to discuss its merits and demerits. But you don't read a CD review with each track reviewed, it takes away the mystery of the music. Likewise, it's best to talk about the animation that sticks out for whatever reason. The standout at All Gay Toons is the "Passion" comic series by Robert Young. A seemingly pencil-drawn series, it's like if Mary Worth were a gay comic. There's a loose plot of sorts while at the same time being surprisingly hot. The animation is well done and original each time. Conversely, the Hot Rod comics seem to go for something similar. A playboy by the name of Rod who finds himself in a different sexual incident every week: blowing the pizza guy, fucking the director of "Our Town", always with some pithy little comment. The letdown here is that many of the panels seem the same, as though the artist has a bank of "filler" panels to put where needed. The 3D series are also interesting, in the sense that it seems nearly human, but it's not. There's something really perverse about that. However, for the most part, the site seems itself a bit superfluous. There's nothing here to really get someone off. It's all a bit fantastical, but it's more intriguing for the spectacle than for anything else. -
- Value
For Bonus content, there are the real life videos as well as picture series. There are also erotic stories to read and come up with your own visuals. Ironically, these are the hottest things on the site, which is kind of sad. -
- Bottom Line
AllGayToons is a good stop on your way to something more. A nice place to stop and whet your whistle. There are a couple bright spots here and there but for the most part, it seems like crude humor, porn that Beavis and Butthead would watch. Enjoy what you can. -
